Audio Podcast: Reinhart Peschke on Arri's D-20 System
Although Guy Ritchie's upcoming film, RocknRolla, is probably the most high-profile feature film currently using Arriflex's new D-20 digital camera system, one of the first movies to take advantage of Arri's digital camera is a foreign film financed, shot, and produced entirely in the country of Jordan called Captain Abu Raed. The project uses three early version D-20's provided by Arriflex Munich to German cinematographer Reinhart Peschke. The movie is currently being edited, and filmmakers, who have already procured distribution throughout the Middle East, expect to have it ready in time for the Sundance Film Festival.
Peschke worked to with GigaPix Studios, Chatsworth, California, to devise a system of recording imagery directly to hard drives on location in Jordan, while using a flash memory recording system for handheld work. He also used new lenses on the project. Peschke recently spoke with millimeter senior editor Michael Goldman about his experience working with the D-20 system. Look for an article on the production in an upcoming issue of millimeter, and meanwhile, click here to hear a podcast of part of Goldman's conversation with Peschke.
