SAN meets FireWire

Connecting post gear together, such as hard drives, via the latest FireWire 800 spec delivers higher throughput while still keeping plug and play ease. But could that connectibility work to build a SAN? That's what MicroNet claims for its SANcube800, introduced at January's Macworld. The FireWire device, housed in a sleek “data cube,” holds up to five 7,200rpm ATA drives for a capacity of 1.5TB. Offering RAID level 5, the SANcube800's serverless network array delivers up to 70MBps transfer rates, according to the company. With an integrated carrying handle on the compact SANcube800, Final Cut Pro users can take the SAN on the road.
