On the Move with Acura

When Acura decided to bring approximately 800 of its dealers to theVenetian Hotel in Las Vegas for a general sales meeting, producer MartyBrinkerhoff of Martin Brinkerhoff Associates (Irvine, Calif.) wasdetermined to create a high-impact spectacle for the gathering. Thuswas born an elaborate production to be played out on a gigantic120×100-foot stage that featured dueling drummers, laser effects, strobing lights, theatrical fog, performers on skates, and twochoreographed car numbers that included all the models of Acura cars. And, of course, there was video.
Brinkerhoff used a total of five screens — three Da-Liteprojection screens and two Lighthouse LED screens. Brinkerhoff used theLED screens primarily for showing the company's commercials.“[LEDs] are very self-contained, very bright, and they couldcompete with all of the lights and the lasers and smoke and still punchthrough,” Brinkerhoff explains. “Projection would neverhave worked there.” Digital Projection's Lightning 15sxprojectors delivered IMAG (image magnification) video duringperformance numbers and speaker presentations.
All the video on all screens was displayed at 16:9 from sixdouble-sided DDRs. To control, display, and manage all this video,Brinkerhoff employed a Fresco controller, a Sierra Video 16×16hi-res router, a Vista ScreenMaster II 1608 console, and a Folsom 2200scaler.
