2C Media Captures Essence of Kenny Powers for Return of HBO's 'Eastbound & Down'
To cue up an all-new season of its hit series Eastbound & Down, HBO called on 2C Media to deliver a promo that marks Kenny Powers'' triumphant return Stateside with a rather fitting way of capturing the character''s true essence...redneck style. The critically acclaimed series, which has become known for pushing the boundaries of comedy, demanded equally provocative promotion, so the creative hot-shop pulled no stops in producing the perfect welcome back.
“We celebrate this momentous occasion with the ultimate redneck status symbol… the air-brushed t-shirt,” said Chris Sloan, 2C Media co-president and executive creative director. “From the gleaming chrome pen, to the puffy clouds of garish colors, to the white trash vixen-turned-canvas, we watch as Kenny''s beautiful mug is meticulously and painstakingly recreated in this semi-erotic experience of air-brushing.”
With Sloan directing, 2C Media shot the promo on RED—the backdrop a stormy day on a seaside boardwalk. To get just the right effect, the team auditioned several airbrush T-shirt artists and then created shirts with Kenny in various stages of completion for the progressive sequence.
“I am both grateful and highly impressed by what 2C managed to accomplish with such a short turnaround time,” said David Roofhooft, HBO Creative Director. “They are clearly a well-oiled machine, and got the show and the HBO brand right off the bat; most impressive was their attention to detail in all facets of this production—particularly the creative—right down to the subject''s fingernails.”
While the third season of Eastbound & Down premieres on HBO in early January, 2C Media''s promos for the show begins airing this week.
