Gennum Enters the HD-SD Format Conversion Market in Europe

Gennum Corporation, the leading supplier of ICs to the professionalvideo market, enters the HD-SD format conversion market in Europe withthe introduction of highly integrated ICs targeted at broadcast, projector, plasma/LCD display and other professional applications.

The new three-chip solution (GF9330/GF9331/GF9320), which is part ofthe MultiGEN product family, provides broadcast format conversionquality at an affordable price to our global customers.

The GF9330 De-interlacer is a high performance VDSP engine thatperforms high quality de-interlacing of interlaced digital televisionsignals and supports both SDTV and HDTV signal formats, including1080P60. It includes a large number of edge directional adaptivefilters, a motion adaptive vertical filter and a motion adaptiveinter-field filter.

The GF9331 Motion Co-processor is a high performance chip that canbe used in conjunction with the GF9330 High Performance De-interlacer.Together, the two compact chips implement a motion adaptivede-interlacer for both SDTV and HDTV digital television signals. TheGF9331 contains pixel-based adaptive edge detectors that cover a largenumber of different edge detections and a motion detector that coversspecial motions in the vertical direction. For lower quality, costsensitive applications, the GF9330 can also be used without theGF9331.

The GF9320 Scaling Processor performs high quality scaling of videoas well as graphic images up to 2k by 2k pixel resolution and provides:pan, scan and zoom/shrink abilities. A fully programmable output matrixprovides for YUV to RGB conversions, gain and hue controls. Inaddition, the GF9320 offers color background and output TRSinsertion.

Typical applications for Gennum’s new three-chip solution spanfrom high-end broadcast through to professional display applications. For example, broadcast quality up/down and cross conversions, aspectratio conversions, large venue displays, projection systems, plasmadisplays, multi-panel LCD displays, home theatre systems and HD-DVDapplications.
