Envivio Announces MPEG-4 Real-Time Encoder with DVD Resolution
Envivio has announced what it claims is the world's first full D1(DVD) resolution real-time encoder. Envivio Live Broadcaster, says thecompany, is a major improvement in the ability to stream standardscompliant audio and video over the Internet.
In addition to higher quality picture, the Live Broadcaster providesimproved compression and advanced options to enable corporations andservice providers to stream higher quality content at a lower bit rate.By enabling Live Broadcaster software on Intel Xeon processor-basedservers, Envivio is able to provide a cost-effective solution to encodeand stream DVD resolution.
"Envivio's Live Broadcaster encoding software, along withhigh-performance Intel-based servers using the Xeon processor and PCclients with the Pentium 4 processor, provides a complete solution tocompress, distribute, and view high quality content on multipledevices," said Tom Gibbs, Director of Solutions Development at IntelCorporation. "Intel is happy to be working closely with Envivio tooptimize both the server and client software and assist them withco-marketing activities to accelerate the market adoption of MPEG-4 asthe ISO/IEC multi-media standard."
Customers such as Declic Communications in France, who create andencode content, have used Envivio's advanced encoders running on Intelplatforms to create high quality content for their customers. "We haveused other real-time encoders and believe that Envivio's new LiveBroadcaster is the best product for our streaming needs of quality andstandards compliance", Marc Morin, Content Production Manager at Declicsaid. "As an Internet design company, we encode content for a widerange of customers, using Envivio's MPEG-4 solutions provides us withthe most flexibility."
Envivio's Live Broadcaster not only includes new and advancedencoding algorithms to obtain higher compression, but also a number ofother features which enable optimized and user friendly applications, including an API for development, a remote management system, and realtime encoding at full D1 resolution.
"We are excited to bring full screen MPEG-4 encoding to themarketplace," stated Julien Signes, CTO at Envivio. "The broadcast andstreaming community has been asking for DVD quality, full-screenresolution at a lower bit rate, and today they have it." With thisproduct, a broadcaster attains the high quality they expect, whileusing less bandwidth. This represents a breakthrough in software MPEG-4encoders, and brings to market a key feature the streaming andbroadcast community want today.
