HP Adds the x1000 to the Product Line

The newest HP workstation to hit the market fills out the low-end ofthe company’s recently introduced product line and putsprofessional-quality digital video editing and animation capabilitiesinto the hands of just about anyone.

Priced at just $1200, the x1000 offers many of the same features asthe higher-end x2000 and x4000 machines, but at a price that’seasily affordable. In addition, the new unit offers some uniquefeatures that make it even more user-friendly for those working in thearea of digital content creation. Specifically, it features convenientfront panel access to Firewire and USB ports, as well as screw-lessaccess internal drives, I/O, and chassis, making it easy to expand themachines capabilities as needed.

The x1000 is based on Intel’s new i845 chip architecture, and,like the x2000 and x4000 runs both Linux and Windows operating systems.It offers 768MB of memory, a 400MHz front side bus, three 32-bit PCIslots, one AGP 4x slot, and can be configured with a Matrox MilleniumG450, a NVIDIA Quadro2 MXR, or a NVIDIA Quadro2 Pro graphics card.Also, like the two higher-end workstations, the x1000 can come bundledwith HP’s Digital Video Production Bundle, which, for just $299,provides a wide range of video editing, DVD-creation, and Webpublishing tools, including Adobe Premier 6.0, Sonic Solutions DVDit,and Adobe GoLive 5.0.

In addition, all the major 3D animation software vendors, includingSoftimage and Discreet, have agreed to certify the workstation forLinux.
