Engineering Supervisor/Senior Engineer:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance of thetechnical and physical facilities and equipment of the Local NewsChannel. Decisions will impact all aspects of news and productionoperations including local and remote operations, live broadcasts,program, and commercial delivery.

Will maintain the overall quality and ensure performance ofoperational equipment, including remote and studio productionfacilities, ENG/SNG vehicles, video routing equipment, wiring and otherfacilities, along with the technical, computer/server-based, and othersystems involved in commercial integration and programdistribution.

Hands-on repair of newsgathering, studio and control room equipment.Maintain video servers, distribution systems, non-linear editingsystems and sophisticated automation interfaces.

Maintain and oversee budget for parts, supplies, contract services,capital equipment and Engineering personnel and operational costs. Willalso recommend and/or purchase new and upgraded equipment as needed andas authorized by the capital budget.

Recruit and hire (in conjunction with Operations manager), inaddition to the training, development and supervision of a competenttechnical staff, organized to optimize individual and teamcapabilities. Evaluate performance of employees.

Oversee training of technical employees such as maintenanceengineers, live and SNG truck technicians, and monitor their daily workwith respect to technical performance and quality and care.

Assures that all essential equipment and systems are in good workingorder.

On call 24/7.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises engineers. Is responsible for the overalldirection, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries outsupervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization'spolicies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing,hiring (in conjunction with Operations Mgr,), and training employees;planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance;rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints andresolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
College degree and/or SBE certification, formal engineering trainingor related computer technology training preferred. Minimum 3 yearsexperience in a television production or broadcast facility isrequired. Experience in a live television news environmentpreferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong understanding of computer operating systems such as LAN/WAN,DOS, Windows, Mac and UNIX.

Must be willing to work on-call and be available by pager 24 hours aday, 7 days a week. Must also be available to work nights and weekendsas needed.

Must be able to use and repair various studio and remotebroadcasting equipment. Proficiency in operation of ENG/microwave , SNGnewsgathering & server based systems preferred.

Must be able to adapt to changing technical and regulatoryenvironment. A working knowledge of all the various technical aspectsof a cable system, plus functional/operational knowledge of alltechnical aspects of television news operations. Knowledge of FCCrequirements and contractor needs and abilities. Must have excellentoral and written communications skills; ability to work on a computer.Must be familiar with hand tools and test meters, sweep gear, leakagedetection equipment, and other tools or meters used in televisionengineering and in maintenance/repair of computerized and server-basedsystems.
