Composing Videos with Compositing

Compositing was the key to putting members of Aerosmith onto afuturistic planet oozing with computer-graphics effects for the band'smusic video, Fly Away from Here. Wayne Shepherd, lead compositor ateffects boutique At The Post, based in Santa Monica, Calif., saidartists completed more than 170 green-screen shots, as well asextensive rotoscoping and cleanup work, in three weeks.

“The quantity of green-screen shots, the time-frame, and thefact that the director [Joseph Kahn] kept tweaking the changingenvironments in the video made this extremely complex from acompositing standpoint,” says Shepherd.
