Edgeworx Launches Company to Help Producers and Directors Plan and Manage the Digital Filmmaking Process
New York -- The launch of Definition, a new digital solutionscompany, was announced today by Edgeworx. The new company will workwith directors and producers to plan and manage the digital filmmakingprocess from concept to delivery. The first project Definition isworking on, the USA Films feature release The Kid Stays in thePicture, makes its world premiere on January 18 at the 2002Sundance Film Festival.
Stemming from Edgeworx's years of experience in digital post andgraphics, Definition offers services that include efficient planning,production, and post solutions utilizing new technologies and developeddigital production processes that address the needs of the traditionalfilmmaker, as well as production packages, digital finishing, HDconversions, and film output.
Definition works with filmmakers early in the production process toprovide a seamless flow from pre-production through to film output."Definition will be a resource for all those who wish to begin workingin DTV formats, including high definition," comments Definition partnerScott Klein. The Kid Stays in the Picture is directed by AcademyAward-nominated filmmakers Brett Morgen and Nanette Burstein (On theRopes). Adapted from Robert Evans' tell-all autobiography, the filmtraces the meteoric rise, fall, and rise again of the legendaryHollywood producer who lived the life that many only dream of. Themovie takes the audience on a intimate journey into the mind of thisHollywood legend. Definition assembled and polished the entire film ina digital format before outputting high-definition screening reels(1080i and 24p versions) and supervising the creation of a filmprint.
Services also included transferring all the footage to digital frommyriad standard-definition formats; scanning thousands of photos; andcreating graphics, transitions, and animation.
Alton Christensen and Dave Tecson, Edgeworx's partners, areacknowledged industry leaders in the introduction of desktop video tothe high-end broadcast market. Tecson was on the initial softwaredevelopment team while he was employed by CoSA, After Effect's creator.Christensen, a multiple Emmy Award winner, became enthralled with theAfter Effects product when it was first introduced.
"All too often, we don't get involved in the digital filmmakingprocess until the end," notes Christensen. "We end up spending our timefixing problems which we'd rather help prevent."
