Dance on Camera Festival
Dance Films Association's 31st annual festival welcomes documentary,experimental, performance, and narrative dance films or videos. Thefestival will take place at the Walter Reade Theatre in New York Cityfrom Jan. 10-Jan. 18, 2003. Dance On Camera Festival is the oldestannual dance film/video festival in the world. Initiated to fostercreativity and encourage fruitful collaborations between dancers andfilm makers.
Founded by DFA in 1971, Dance on Camera Festival is now presented incollaboration with the Film Society of Lincoln Center at the WalterReade Theater in New York City and several other venues in the NYCarea. In 2002, DFA received 180 entries from 20 countries. Participantsfrom around the world regularly attend the festival. The winner of thefestival receives a cash award.
Starting in 1999, Dance On Camera Festival started to tournationally and internationally. The Festival includes liveperformances, photo exhibitions, workshops, and working rehearsals withcollaborating dancers and videographers. The Festival is made possibledue to the generosity of the Grand Marnier Foundation, NationalEndowment for the Arts, Capezio Ballet-Makers, Puffin Foundation,Experimental Television Center, Canadian and Netherlands Consulates,Susan Braun Trust, and DFA members.
DFA asks the permission of winning entrants to include their work onDance On Camera On Tour. All entries with classical scores are alsowelcomed for screening (3-minute excerpt) on Classic Art Showcase, andother PBS programs. For the screenings in the tour outside of New York,the entrants receive a honorarium.
