Dolby to Host "Afternoon of Audio" at NAB
Dolby Laboratories has organized a series of technical panelsdiscussing all relevant and timely technical issues dealing with audioin broadcasting. The session will begin at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 10,in room S220 in the Las Vegas Convention Center. The session willinclude such topics as delivery requirements, equipment configuration,live events (including music and sports), mixing 5.1 vs. stereo,audio/video sync, and loudness.
The breakdown of sessions is as follows:
5.1 Channel Content Creation, including creative opportunities,downmixing for compatibility, setting audio metadata, and networkdelivery requirements. Presented by Stanley Johnston, effects/Foleymixer; and Elmo Ponsdomenech, dialog/music mixer, both of NYPDBlue.
Affiliate-Network Engineering, including network infrastructure,delivery requirements, and station infrastructure. Presented by JimDeFilippis, VP engineering, Fox Digital TV.
Audio for Taped Programming, including delivery requirements,converting legacy content, and A/V sync issues. Presented by RayMilius, VP of production/operations, Starz!
Converting to 5.1 Audio, including network uplink requirements,truck infrastructure, distribution, and downmix compatibility mixingfor live events. Presented by Craig Cuttner, VP technology HBO.
Different Network Requirements/Ingest Specifications, includingmultiple SAP, multiple formats and standards, and ingestspecifications. Presented by Bruce Graham, VP audio services, VidfilmServices, Inc.
The sessions will be moderated by Steve Venezia, manager DVD/DTVbroadcast support, Dolby Laboratories. "These sessions will bepresented by some of the broadcast industry's leading professional whoare producing and delivering multichannel content today," says Mr.Venezia. "Multichannel audio has become a very important feature ofhigh-quality television programming; these sessions will covertechniques and issues from content creation to final transmission andoffer real-world insight to ensure successful surround soundbroadcasts."
