Summary:
The Technical Support Engineer is a high level, dynamic, field positionresponsible for finding ways to resolve customer technical supportissues for discreet system products such as flame, inferno, smoke,fire, lustre and burn.

Job Description:

• He/she will be responsible for delivering on-site support andproblem resolution to customers, as outlined according to discreetsupport and services.

• Ideally he/she has advanced experience with the installation andadvanced troubleshooting of discreet systems products and advancedexperience with sgi and pc hardware. Advanced knowledge of Irix, RedhatLinux and Microsoft Windows XP is desirable. The TSE will also bepro-active in the assistance and training of other technical supportspecialists.

• He/she will contribute to the creation of technical informationbulletins and knowledge base documents destined for product techniciansworldwide as well as contribute information for product news groups anddiscussion forums.

• The TSE will contribute to on-site and in-house testing andreproducing issues, which occur in a production environment andtherefore must be comfortable with broadcast, film and post productionstudio concerns with regards to professional applications and workflowand must keep current in this area.

• TSE must be proactive and efficient in escalating technical issues,as well as contribute his/her on-site findings, research, and technicalissues in regular liaison meetings and projects with support inMontreal. She/he will be stationed in Santa Monica but will communicateclosely on a regular basis with support services in Montreal.

• The TSE must be capable of independent verification of customerproblems, beta issues, software and hardware bugs and feedback.

• He/she must be able to present and conduct him/herself in aprofessional manner as a direct discreet representative in an on-sitesituation.

• As well the TSE may be asked to participate in assisting trade showwith technical integration activities.

• This position will involve some travel and a very high level oftechnical expertise, responsibility, maturity and pro-activity. The TSEwill be available to do shift work and weekend work as well as providecell-phone support.

The minimum level of education is a college degree or equivalentwork experience. Also, the following items are consideredessential:

• Advanced technical knowledge of discreet systemsproducts.
• Very good knowledge and experience with workstationconfigurations and hardware -all technical aspects (broadcast, post,and engineering studio) both sgi and pc.

• Knowledge of extra-peripheral software/hardware components (thirdparty, raid and san technology etc).

• Very good knowledge of industry standard certified operatingsystems. (Irix, Redhat Linux, XP).

• Certifications an asset.

• Good knowledge of network administration.

• 5 to 6 years professional technical support engineering and/orpost-production experience and good knowledge of technical issueswithin such an environment.

• Very good English communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Be comfortable with regularly utilising database systems, e.g. LotusNotes, Clarify.

• Be comfortable with using applications for the creation ofschematics such as Actrix Technical 2000 or Visio 2000 as well as anyother applications for the purposes of technical documentation.

• Must be able to have technical training skills and contribute to thedevelopment of technical support curriculum.

• Must function well within a team while having the capacity offunctioning without direct supervision.

• Good overall knowledge and experience within the production,post-production and/or television industry.

• Must have a proactive attitude and must have the ability to interactin a professional environment in a mature, diplomatic manner withclients as a discreet representative.

• Must be able to work under pressure and have a high level ofresponsibility, maturity and self-Determination.
