Digital Farm announces Independent Filmmaker DVD Program
SEATTLE, WA. - Digital Farm recently announced a new programdesigned to help Independent Filmmakers bring their films to DVD byoffering low-cost services to permit them to gain necessary DVDtechnical help.
For a limited number of titles per year, Digital Farm is waving amajority of the fees that make the cost of creating creativeDVD’s prohibitive to Independent Filmmakers. Instead, the newprogram will cost filmmakers just $750 per year.
Independent filmmakers often have access to the graphics andcompositing programs needed for advance DVD menu work, but they oftenlack access to studio-quality hardware audio and video encoders andexperienced DVD authors.
"The key is that instead of a limited feature package, we've takenthe approach of a BYOG (bring your own graphics) type program so thetitle can be as in-depth and involved as the filmmaker wants," saysJohn Hendricks, an indie filmmaker and director of DVD services atDigital Farm. "This program is for filmmakers who want to createfeature-rich titles."
“By having the filmmakers do the really time-consuming part ofcreating the menus and overall look, we can leverage our encodinghardware and years of authoring experience into a win-win situation forboth parties," adds Bill Kuper, president of Digital Farm.
The program will work like this: first, filmmakers submit theirfilms for approval, usually during pre-production. Second, Digital Farmworks with the filmmaker to plan the scope of the project (i.e. bonusfootage, motion menus, alternate audio tracks, etc.). Third, thefilmmaker delivers a finished film, menu graphics, and bonus material(including additional audio tracks and subtitles) to Digital Farm.Fourth, Digital Farm encodes the project's assets and authors a DVDutilizing Sonic DVD hardware and software. Fifth, Digital Farm createsa test DVD-R for review and a master DLT for replication. At this pointfilmmakers can send their films out for replication, have Digital Farmdo it for them, or order a short run of DVD-R's for promotionaluse.
Qualifying films can be of any genre (including short filmcollections). Note that Digital Farm is not a distribution company andassumes no distribution rights to project.
