Sam Donaldson to Interview FCC Chairman Michael K. Powell at NAB2002

ABC News anchor Sam Donaldson will interview Federal CommunicationsCommission (FCC) Chairman Michael K. Powell in a one-on-one setting forthe FCC Chairman's Breakfast, April 9 at NAB2002 in Las Vegas.

Powell was sworn in as a member of the Commission in 1997. He wasdesignated Chairman by President Bush in 2001. In addition to hisnormal duties as FCC Chairman, Powell is responsible for overseeing allNational Security Emergency Preparedness functions for the Commission.He previously served as the Chief of Staff of the Antitrust Division inthe U.S. Department of Justice. Prior to joining the JusticeDepartment, Powell was an associate in the Washington, D.C. office ofthe law firm of O'Melveny & Myers LLP. He graduated from theGeorgetown University Law Center.

Donaldson is co-anchor on the Sunday political program This Weekwith Sam Donaldson & Cokie Roberts. Following the events ofSeptember 11, 2001, Donaldson returned to radio on a regular basis ashost of Sam Donaldson Live In America, a daily two-hour radiobroadcast. The program features newsmaker interviews, discussion ofrecent events and listener call-in segments.

In addition, Donaldson is anchor of SamDonaldson@abcnews.com,the first regularly scheduled Internet webcast produced by a televisionnetwork. Donaldson's journalism career spans more than four decades,and he has served two stints as chief White House correspondent forABC, covering Presidents Carter, Reagan and Clinton. He has alsocovered all but one of the national political conventions since 1964.Beginning his broadcast career at KRLD-AM in Dallas in 1959, he soonjoined WTOP in Washington prior to joining ABC in 1967.
