Turner Entertainment Group’s Clyde D. Smith Receives SMPTE Award

Atlanta, GA - The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers(SMPTE), recently presented Turner Entertainment Group’s SeniorVice President of Broadcast Technology, Clyde D. Smith, with theprestigious Outstanding Service to the Society citation, at an Honorsand Awards Ceremony and Reception held November 6, 2001, in NewYork.

SMPTE, the leading technical society for the motion imagingindustry, claims more than 10,000 members throughout 85 countries. TheSMPTE organization is recognized as the global leader in thedevelopment of standards and authoritative practices for film,television, video, and multimedia.

A prominent player in SMPTE since 1987, Smith has held the positionsof manager, secretary-treasurer as well as chairman. A driving force inorganizing and promoting SMPTE seminars and conferences in the SouthernRegion and throughout the United States, Smith’s sustainedefforts to encourage participation has resulted in a strong SMPTEinfluence in the Southeast region, which he represents on the Board ofGovernors.

In his current role as Senior Vice President of Broadcast Technologyfor Turner Entertainment Group, encompassing Turner BroadcastingSystem’s Network Operations and Turner Studios, Smith isresponsible for the strategic development and planning of newtechnology in addition to the operational transition of media fromproduction to broadcast to air. Smith’s position is instrumentalto the technical and operational design of, and migration into, a new193,000 square foot, state-of-the-art Network Operations facilitysituated on Turner’s Techwood Campus in Atlanta.

Prior to joining Turner Entertainment Group in 1999, Smith held keyexecutive positions at Speer Worldwide Digital and Lockheed SpaceOperations Company, where he was at the forefront of significanttechnical and operational initiatives, such as improvements to theSpace Shuttle transportation systems following the Challengeraccident.
