Mercer County Community College To Host New Jersey's First Entertainment Technology Conference

Industry Leaders to Present Hands-On Sessions on Digital Cinema,HDTV, Animation and Effects, and Streaming Media


WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - Mercer County Community College (MCCC) willhost New Jersey's first Entertainment Technology Conference, Exploringthe New Frontiers of Entertainment Technology (EnTech), from September24-26, 2003. The conference will feature hands-on sessions onproduction technologies that are transforming the industry, presentedby experts in such areas as digital cinema, animation, high definitionTV, and webcasting.

"This is an opportunity for the people who create, produce, and useentertainment media to exchange ideas and learn the latest techniquesin the field," said Steve Gorelick, Associate Director of the NewJersey Motion Picture and Television Commission.

Dr. Michael Glass, director of Statewide Training Programs forMercer County Community College, said the conference is capitalizing onNew Jersey's increasing involvement in the entertainment industry. "NewJersey has the sixth largest entertainment industry in the country," hesaid "This conference will be an exciting vehicle to promote thecontinued growth of an important industry in our state."

Featured speakers will include Barry Rebo, Emmy-winning co-founderof the first high definition video production company in the U.S., andMichael Uslan, Executive Producer of the series of "Batman" films.Rebo, a widely-recognized expert in digital imaging systems, hasproduced more than 150 high definition programs and commercials. Uslanwon an Emmy Award in 1995 for the animated show "Where on Earth isCarmen Sandiego?"

Other professionals working on the cutting edge of technology willlead breakout sessions at the conference. Pat Corbitt of UnrealProductions in Keyport, N.J., a 30-year veteran producer, director andanimator, will present "a close-up look at some astounding 'moviemagic.'" Lynn Colyer, director of broadcast production at PrudentialFinancial Inc. will discuss "how corporate AV units of the past are nowfull-fledged internal production companies."

"EnTech will give participants practical exposure to digitaltechnologies in video production, cinema, television, animation andgraphics," said Michael Tinker, digital cinema specialist at SarnoffCorporation. "It will also offer insight into future directions inthose fields."

Exploring the New Frontiers of Entertainment Technology is expectedto attract filmmakers, animators, Internet webcasters, satellite TVproviders, video game companies, and computer software companies.Entrepreneurs and investors in the entertainment industry are alsoinvited.

Partnering with Mercer County Community College in offering theconference are the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission,Sarnoff Corporation, and the Mercer County Office of EconomicDevelopment.

The Conference Center at Mercer County Community College is locatedat 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor, N.J., on the Princeton-Trentoncorridor. Registrations for the two-day conference are now beingaccepted. The cost is $295 ($99 for MCCC students).
