2002 TEC Awards Contributes Over $41,000 to Hearing Conservation Programs and Audio Scholarships

Walnut Creek, CA--The Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio hasannounced the distribution of proceeds from the 18th Annual TechnicalExcellence and Creativity (TEC) Awards, held last October in LosAngeles. The charity event raised more than $41,000 in support ofongoing efforts to inform audio professionals, musicians and thegreater community about noise-induced hearing loss, and providefinancial aid for deserving students of the audio arts andsciences.

Over half the proceeds were donated to the Sound Partners program ofthe House Ear Institute (Los Angeles) and Hearing Education andAwareness for Rockers (H.E.A.R.), based in San Francisco-non-profitorganizations whose programs educate audio professionals, musicians andthe general public about the prevention of hearing impairment fromover-exposure to high sound levels in recording and live performanceenvironments.

The remaining proceeds will benefit scholarship endowments forstudents of the audio arts and sciences at Berklee College of Music,Ex'pression Center for New Media, Middle Tennessee State University,University of Massachusetts-Lowell, University of Miami and Universityof Southern California, as well as the AES Educational Foundation, andthe student assistance program of the Society of Professional AudioRecording Services (SPARS).

"We are proud to share the vision of these valuable organizationsand to help sustain their continued efforts to serve the audioindustry," said Hillel Resner, president of the Mix Foundation. "Thoughthis industry has not been immune to the effects of the recent economicdownturn, its members have continued to respond generously to the needsof the extended audio community."
