5D and Innovation TK Enter Technology Alliance
London (October 26) -- Media solutions developer 5D announced it hasentered into a technology alliance with telecine manufacturerInnovation TK (ITK). The two UK-based companies are activelycollaborating on integrating their technologies to deliver new and moreefficient ways to manipulate digital images in today's rapidly evolvingdigital postproduction industry.
The first project involves the integration of 5D Commander, 5D'sreal-time film and video playback/output system, with ITK's MillenniumMachine telecine. The objective is to provide significant improvementsin workflow and the distribution of materials between film compositingand mastering solutions, including 5D Cyborg and 5D Colossus. ITK willdemonstrate the Millennium Machine/5D Commander combination to visitorsat SMPTE in New York, 4-7th November 2001.
ITK’s Millennium Machine telecine was launched 18 months ago.Now installed in more than 30 postproduction facilities world-wide, theMillennium Machine is designed around the concept of creating digitalimages as close as possible to the actual film, with a warmer, moreorganic, film-quality feel.
5D Commander was designed to provide a convenient and flexible wayto view full-frame SD, HD, CG and film-resolution data, such as dailytest composites for movie special effects and 3D content. As soon asmaterials are output from the originating workstation, they can beviewed on Commander. By enabling the viewing on a CRT, or via a digitalprojector, the system offers an alternative to the traditional processof checking digital dailies by outputting to film.
