VES Brings Festival to Germany

The Visual Effects Society has signed agreements with Prime MinisterRoland Koch of the State of Hessen for the Visual Effects Society tobring a European version of its annual “Festival of VisualEffects” to Frankfurt, Germany in October 2002.

“VES has been exploring partnerships in Europe to best developthe storytelling platform that has made the VES Festival in the UnitedStates the premier visual effects experience,” says Tom Atkin,Executive Director. “VES believes that the State of Hessen andthe eDIT congress provide the best opportunity for this to occur inEurope.”

VES will run its festival concurrently with the eDIT congress. eDIT,now entering its fourth year, focuses upon production, post-production,and an awards competition.

“We are thrilled that VES has chosen Frankfurt for itsfestival in Europe,” says Sebastian Popp, Producer of eDIT.“Moreover, we support the concept that it may (much likeSIGGRAPH) rotate from Frankfurt to other European locations. We thinkthat the event and the site selection combine to produce a moremeaningful experience for the attendees.”

“There are advantages to having two events runningconcurrently, but with no conflicting program schedules,” saysAtkin. “VES can do its two-hour programs focusing on the art andtechnology of storytelling, while eDIT provides platforms for moredetailed panel discussion about specific production and visual effectssubjects. eDIT/ VES 2002 has every opportunity to indeed develop intothe European festival for production and visual effects.”

The Visual Effects Society was founded in 1997. It is theworld’s largest organization of distinguished visual effectsprofessionals. VES: A Festival of Visual Effects has been in LosAngeles for its first three years. VES 2002 will take place at the SanRafael Film Center, San Rafael California, June 14-16. eDIT/ VES 2002will take place in Frankfurt in October 2002.
