Christian Tremblay Takes the Helm at ALGOLITH
Christian Tremblay, founder and former president of MirandaTechnologies, is heading up Algolith Inc., a new company offering videoprocessing algorithms, which will officially launch at InfoComm 2003.The new company, with Tremblay as its president and CEO, was createdthrough the spinoff of Miranda Technologies’ algorithmic group. Its executive management includes founders of Miranda and assetmanagement provider Keyvia Inc.
Building on experience in developing award-winning audiovisualproducts for Miranda, including the Aquila upconverter and the DT-4101mosquito noise reducer, Montréal-based Algolith will develop andmarket video processing solutions for digital cinema applicationsranging from high-end post-production tools to products for hometheater consumers. Algolith will leverage an exclusive license toMiranda’s extensive intellectual property portfolio, as well asaccess to all technologies the company has developed, to target formatconversion and pre/post processing applications.
"Algolith is not just any start-up; it’s a start-up with a bigbrain," says Tremblay. "With a solid foundation in intellectualproperty development and expertise in providing world-class videoprocessing solutions, we’ll be able to hit the groundrunning.
"Algolith is positioned to provide Miranda’s industry-leadingvideo processing algorithms to the digital cinema, home theater andother emerging markets, backed by more than a decade of experience indevelopment, sales, distribution, and support."
Algolith will be marketing its intellectual properties, oralgorithms, in four areas: software, hardware, IP cores, and DSPs. Thecompany’s first software package, Algolith, is an Apple Shakeplug-in that deinterlaces, resizes, converts frame rate, and reducesnoise in images of all kinds. Algolith's first hardware implementationwill be the DT-4102, the next-generation 3D noise reducer that buildson Miranda’s DT-4101, widely acclaimed by the "topsumer" marketfor its conversion and noise-reduction capabilities. Meanwhile, thecompany will look to strategic partnerships to extend the reach of itsadvanced algorithms through IP core and DSP implementations.
In addition to the leadership of Tremblay, Miranda cofounder andpresident from 1989 to 2002, Algolith executive management includes:vice president and COO Dominique Ste-Marie, founding president ofKeyvia, the Montréal-based digital asset management company; CTOChon Tam Le Dinh, Ph.D., also a Miranda cofounder; vice president ofsales Michel Poirer, founding president and CEO of Syncom Image DisplaySystems; director of hardware Jocelyn Ouellet, another Mirandacofounder; and director of software Daniel Collin, who has held keypositions at Discreet and Matrox.
