Media.Net High-Speed Network Attracts More TV Production Clients
Media.net added seven more television pilots to its expanding rosterof clients using its online service to streamline production. The sevenpilots are shooting on location in Toronto and Vancouver. To meet thetight production schedules inherent with pilot season, the productionteams are utilizing Media.net's private high-speed network between LosAngeles, Toronto and Vancouver to send dailies and edit files toediting rooms, and to LA-based producers and executives for review andapproval.
The seven pilots include "Everwood" (Warner Bros. Television),"Eastwick" (Warner Bros. Television), "Destiny" (Warner Bros.Television), "The Funkhousers" (Touchstone Television /JerseyTelevision), "The Clark/Prince Bandstand" (Universal), "Haunted"(Viacom), and a pilot from an undisclosed major LA studio.
Working with post facilities in Vancouver and Toronto, Media.netenables users to send dailies (Media.net Digital Dailies application)over the network to executive and producer desktops in Los Angeles. Forindividuals not connected to Media.net, LA-based dub rooms connect toMedia.net in order to make viewing copies of the dailies. Media.net'sDigital Dailies eliminate costly workflow and shipping delays anddeliver higher quality audio and video than traditional VHS tapes.
"Media.net's high-speed network linking Canadian production withHollywood has enabled us to design an extremely efficient workflow forour clients," said Barry Chambers, Rainmaker Digital General Manager."Production companies are able to keep their post production staffs inLA while eliminating the time delays of sending dailies tapes to theedit room and edit review tapes back to the location."
Using Media.net's Edit System Dailies application, clients sendpre-digitized Avid system OMF files over Media.net's network to editingrooms in Los Angeles. The files are then available for immediatedownload into the editing systems, eliminating the need to wait fortape deliveries from Canada and the additional time to digitize in theediting room.
Some pilot production teams also use Media.net from Command Post'sTOYBOX to send pre-digitized edit files directly to the editing roomsin Los Angeles. Editors, in turn, use Media.net's Edit Reviewapplication to publish edited sequences of the show to Media.net wherethey are accessible for real time review and approval by theproducers/directors in Toronto.
Notes Andy Sykes, vice president and partner, Command Post &Transfer, Toronto, "What we are witnessing is a virtual shrinking ofgeography. In spite of the three-hour time difference from east to westcoast, we can be on our client's desktops by breakfast, via thisconnectivity. Media.net effectively facilitates this high-speedreality."
"This season we're seeing a dramatic increase in the number of showsand feature film productions taking advantage of the efficiencyMedia.net brings to post production," said Scott Tolleson, CEO ofMedia.net. "Once producers use Media.net's online service andproduction applications, they don't want to go back to waiting forlower quality tapes."
