London’s The Mill Announces Plans for New York Base
London, ENGLAND - The Mill announced its intention to establish aNew York base for the commercials visual effects business. The firststage of The Mill's move will be located within Outpost Digital, a DVediting facility in Hudson Street on the outskirts of Soho. Initiallythe 1,500 square feet satellite operation will include two flame suiteswith support machines plus several 3D stations. The Mill aims torecruit a mixture of British and American talent to staff the venture.The Mill in New York expects to be fully open for business by thebeginning of May 2002.
Robin Shenfield, CEO of The Mill and Mill Film, commented, 'We havebeen contemplating this move for a while, and had a very positiveresponse from our American clients about going ahead. Traditionally,The Mill in London derives around 20% of its advertising revenue viathe USA, particularly New York head-quartered agencies and editorialcompanies.'
Over the past two years The Mill has been pioneering connectivitybetween clients based in USA, completing various high-profile UScommercials in London including Nike, Lexus, AT&T, Sony, Mercedesand Fox NASCAR. The Mill is currently equipped with 100mb Wam!Netfibre, the NeTune ShowRunner service and BEAM.TV, a high bandwidthinternet-based service for content sharing, review and approval.
Shenfield, concluded, 'We have been successfully post producingcross-Atlantic projects, including feature films such as Gladiator, theHarry Potter Series and Black Hawk Down for a couple of years. Our aimis to start relatively small in New York, with The Mill mother ship inLondon as backup. We hope that within the next twelve months The Millwill grow to become a substantial feature of the Manhattanpost-production scene'.
