Cable Executives Support Digital Asset Archiving

SURVEY REVEALS NEARLY 90% OF CABLE NETWORK EXECUTIVES SEE ACOMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE IN TRANSFERRING ANALOG ASSETS TO DIGITAL

San Jose, CA, September 25, 2001 – According to a recentsurvey at the National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA)show, nearly 90 percent of respondents see a distinct competitiveadvantage in transferring their rich media assets from analog todigital. However, only 54 percent currently have some type of approachor solution in place. The targeted study, which was fielded to 136cable network executives, was conducted by Concadia Solutions LLC, anew joint venture formed by Accenture and Sony Electronics.

The study also concludes that 60 percent of the executives, who saidthey do not currently have an approach in place for transferring theirassets, plan to implement a solution within the next two years.

“Investment levels must be closely tied to a set of clearexpectations and business benefits,” said Norm Rickeman,President of Concadia Solutions. “And the approach must bepragmatic. For example, digital conversion is not an all-or-nothingproposition. Concadia develops scalable solutions that allow cablenetworks to invest in what they need now and easily expand, asappropriate, in the future.”

After carefully assessing the state of the industry, Concadiaconcluded that even though some executives are delaying investment dueto current economic conditions, those same executives have a strongbelief and understanding that they must still take action over the nexttwo years.

“Concadia helps cable companies design a plan to transfertheir rich media assets to digital, which, in turn, allows them toexploit new revenue streams. We can work with a company at any stage ofits digital transfer strategy and help determine the impact of itsinvestment,” Rickeman added.

The study provides strong support for the value proposition andbenefits of digital conversion. Once a company has digitized itsassets, they can then be re-purposed and distributed via new mediumssuch as the Web. With digital-asset management solutions, organizationsalso benefit from the ability to: preserve and exploit digital assetsfor future use, facilitate centralized access to content, improveworkflow, minimize time to market, enhance business decisions, andidentify and exploit new business models offering new revenuestreams.
