Movielink Chooses IBM To Power Online Movie Rental Service
Studio-backed Company Taps IBM Technology For New IP (InternetProtocol) Based Service
SANTA MONICA, CA -- Movielink announced the selection of IBM toprovide technology services to power its upcoming online movie rentalservice. The Movielink service will offer a wide selection oftheatrically released motion pictures for download to broadbandInternet users in the United States. Under terms of the agreement, IBMwill provide Movielink with managed hosting services including systemsoperations and network management.
Movielink will use the Internet as a distribution channel,delivering films initially to consumers PC's and then to other Internetconnected devices via a secure open-access Internet Protocol (IP) basedsystem. The participating studios, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios,Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Studios andWarner Bros., will supply movies to the service on a non-exclusivebasis with each content provider independently determining its ownrelease window dates and pricing strategies.
