Cinema Audio Society President's Award Recipients
The Cinema Audio Society (C.A.S.) Board of Directors has voted topresent the C.A.S. President’s Award to four movie industry soundexecutives responsible for the soundtrack restoration of seven classicStanley Kubrick films. The presentation will be made at the 40thAnniversary C.A.S. Awards Banquet Saturday, Feb. 21st., in the CrystalBallroom of the Biltmore Hotel.
The President’s Award will be shared by Chris Jenkins, Sr.Vice President, Sound Services, Universal Studios; Ned Price, VicePresident Mastering, Technical Operations, Warner Bros.; Tom Regal,Manager, Audio Restoration, Chace Productions; and Leon Vitali,Director of Kubrick Restoration, who worked on the project. The titlesinvolved in this incredible effort to preserve these films and theirsoundtracks are: 2001 A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, BarryLyndon Full Metal Jacket, and The Shining.
“The care and love that went into restoring the tracks totheir exact creative intent while making them more presentable bytoday's playback standards need to be recognized,” said RichardLightstone, C.A.S. President.
Chris Jenkins, who supervised the restoration project, said,“The work took place over a year-and-a-half. The projectinitially started with Stanley Kubrick and me for the restoration of2001. We soon realized that we needed to do an in-depth and completerestoration on each of the films. The mixes were done at Todd-AO,Studio One.”
Seven-time Oscar winning re-recording mixer and sound designer GaryRydstrom, CAS, will receive the C.A.S. 2004 Career Achievement Award atthe banquet.
C.A.S., which is dedicated to the advancement of sound, is comprisedof more than 400 professionals from the motion picture and televisionsound crafts. Founded in 1964, its goal is to educate sound mixers onnew technological advances through the interchange of information,seminars and workshops.
