da Vinci Introduces Next-Generation Revival Film Restoration System

Da Vinci Systems announced that it will launch the next generationof its revival film restoration system at the NAB2004 convention, April19 to 22 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This fourth version ofrevival will feature a number of enhancements, including upgrades tothe auto balance controls of the color enhancement module, improvementsto the automatic scratch and stabilization tools, and refinements inthe system's open-standards access to DPX files.

"Since the introduction of our first color corrector in 1984, wehave continually pushed to develop new products and refine our existingsystems to best address the challenges facing our customers in thetelevision, film, and digital intermediate markets," says da Vinci vicepresident of marketing and product management Matthew Straeb. "Thefourth version of our revival system illustrates this commitment byintroducing new features that promise to reduce production time whileplacing increasingly powerful tools in the hands of today's topcreative professionals."

With the latest version of revival, users receive the improved colorenhancement module as part of the standard automatic package, whichalso includes dirt, scratch, grain, deflicker, and stabilization tools.The color enhancement module includes new white, black, gain, lift, andgamma auto balance functions and finer manual RGB controls. The colormodule also now maintains color balance while the master gain, lift,and gamma controls are adjusted.

The revival is an open-file system, providing users with directaccess to DPX files on a local hard drive or network server. Thisfeature enables the operators to process files without first importingthem to the local file system. The revival is designed to performcollaboratively with the company's Server Interface Option for anefficient workflow with the da Vinci 2K color enhancement system.

Other new improvements to revival include customizable hotkeymapping and new reveal brush enhancements that allow users to paint intexture and grain. The automatic stabilization feature now includes atool for reducing heavy foreground motion that differs from anybackground instability. With this feature, users can steady titlesequences that include varying background motions or stabilizelocked-down camera shots with foreground motion. The revival'sautomatic scratch tool also has been updated with additional menuselections and improved processing of single-color scratches.

The latest revival system, and other products from da Vinci's fullline of color enhancement and restoration hardware and software, willbe demonstrated at the company's NAB2004 exhibit at booth # C9117.Further information is available at www.davsys.com.
