Rorke Data Launches ImageSAN for Postproduction and Broadcast Market
Rorke Data, a subsidiary of San Jose, Calif.-based BellMicroproducts, announced today it has developed and launched ImageSAN.ImageSAN is a file-level SAN management software application developedspecifically for digital content and rich media applicationenvironments, in which large-sized data files are the norm, andcollaborative workgroups drive the workflow.
As opposed to traditional MIS environments, ImageSAN was developedby Rorke Data as a cost-effective SAN product that targets small tomedium workgroups common in digital video post, effects, medical, andprepress application environments. ImageSAN, developed specifically forthe rich media and content markets, is designed to modify and leverageworkflow specific to content creation, distribution, and output.
"The ImageSAN product can easily scale in order to meet the demandsof large facilities, as well," says Joe Rorke, vice president ofmarketing for Rorke Data. "Still, our unique design allows workgroupsall of the benefits of SAN-based workflow at much lower start-price. Weavoid the need and added costs for extraneous meta-data serversrequired by the competition, and our application also has a lower listprice; so a typical five- or six-seat ImageSAN deployment can result ina savings of over $30,000."
"For over 15 years Rorke Data has collaborated with digital contentapplication OEMs, resellers, and end users. We have acquired a deepunderstanding of the relationships between data storage, networks, anda given user's workflow," said Bob Herzan, vice president of sales."OEM partners as diverse as Matrox, Sony, Pinnacle, Drastic, Inscriber, are all engaged in the process of approving the product. We willshowcase the product at several of these partners' booths at both theBeijing, China-based BIRTV trade event (August 22-25), as well asintroduce the Mac OS X version this in September at IBC."
"We recommend the ImageSAN software to our postproduction andbroadcast customers. Its attractive entry-level price point lets evensmall workgroups benefit from streamlined SAN-based workflow, yet theproduct also scales to meet the needs of large facilities forredundancy and fail-over capabilities," says Lee Kaburis, productmanager, Matrox Video Products Group. "Our users and resellersparticularly appreciate ImageSAN's open concept that providescompatibility with other storage products."
