Miranda's Next-Generation SDI to HD-SDI Upconverter Combines a More Powerful Feature Set With a Lower Price

Miranda Technologies today announced the release of its new ImagingSeries QUC-801i SDI to HD-SDI upconverter module, a next- generationupconverter that combines a more powerful feature set with a lowerprice.

"The QUC-801i offers a comprehensive yet highly space-efficientupconversion solution on a single Imaging Series card," saysJean-Claude Krelic, product manager at Miranda. "With features thatinclude embedded audio and metadata handling, this product is designedto satisfy the most demanding broadcast and post-productionclients."

The new QUC-801i module offers high-density upconversion, allowing16 modules to be housed in the 4-RU Symphonie frame, and four modulesto be housed in the new 1-RU Quartet 2 frame. Excellent picture qualityis ensured with advanced, adaptive 3D de-interlacing with edgedetection, as well as color space conversion and built-in noisereduction and detail enhancement. Multiple HD output formats can beselected by the user, including 1080i, 720p, and 480i.

Also integrated is Miranda's unique variable aspect ratio blendingtechnology, which allows the user to create and store custom blends ofcommon aspect ratios to suit individual broadcast and post-productionrequirements. These presets can be recalled by software or GPI for easyon-air control by a station automation system. The QUC-801i alsoincludes a built-in frame synchronizer to eliminate the need forseparate frame sync, and offers automatic input format detection.

The new upconverter provides full embedded audio handling, withextraction and re-embedding of up to four groups of audio with delaycompensation and lip-sync correction. The card is also available in a"video only" version at a lower price. SDI time code and closedcaptioning can also be extracted, delayed, processed, and re-insertedinto the HD-SDI.

The upconverter can be controlled from the card edge, by Miranda'sRCP-100 1-RU remote control panel, and by the company's easy-to-use,iControl Web networked remote control and monitoring system.
