JVC Announces MiniDV HD Recording Technology
further illustrated its commitment to the high definition marketwith the announcement of its ability to make an HD recording on aMiniDV tape.
"JVC has always been an innovator in the consumer electronicsindustry with many industry firsts to our credit," says Jerry Barbera, vice president, Consumer Video, JVC. "Just as we were the first companyto market an HD solution for recording and playing HD signals and 1080iD-Theater Hollywood movies, we anticipate we will be the first in themarket with a consumer level HD camcorder."
"One of the reasons we were able to get to this point is ourdevelopment of progressive scan technology," adds Rob Payesko, merchandising manager, Consumer Video, JVC. "We are able to record 480i(NTSC) in standard DV compression as well as 480p and 720p (ATSC) inMPEG-2 compression all on a standard Mini DV cassette. As we examinethe product possibilities as a result of this technology, we know wehave to make this integrate into existing HD systems. To this point, wewould want to offer IEEE1394 connectivity as well as component videooutput for connection to HD ready monitors. This technology also allowsfor a variety of playback modes: 480i for integration with existing 4:3NTSC displays and 480p, 720p and 1080i to drive high performancedisplay devices." "Now the consumers that have invested in HD displaydevices can create their own HD content worthy of the display it isbeing shown on," says Barbera. "This is the beginning of a new way tocreate memories, introduced by JVC."
