Shoot Tools: JVC GY-HM100
You've got to hand it to JVC: Since it severed its final corporate connection with Panasonic last year, the Yokohama, Japan-based company has moved quickly to rebuild its long-held innovative reputation. JVC forged a new relationship with Sony (signing on to produce gear that uses the XDCAM EX codec). At CES 2009, the company released the GY-HM100, an entry-level 3CCD camcorder that records on inexpensive SDHC media cards directly to the QuickTime spec, allowing it to be immediately edited on Avid Media Composer and Apple Final Cut Pro systems. Recording at 35Mbps at 1080i60, the 3lb. camcorder was joined by a shoulder-mount version, the GY-HM700, in February.
