Graphics processing units (GPUs) are what give graphics cards theirspeed. Nvidia's new GeForce FX GPU is set to give a bigboost to the cards of manufacturers who integrate it into theirofferings. That's primarily thanks to Samsung's double data rate (DDR)memory. The GeForce FX uses 1GHz DDR II synchronous RAM, doubling thebandwidth and providing the industry's fastest frame rates at higherresolutions and higher color depths than before, Nvidia claims. Basedon Nvidia's CineFX architecture, which supports 128-bit color, the GPUuses an advanced 0.13-micron and copper process to pack almost twice asmany transistors as the GeForce4.
