When you move away from the idea that a camera has to be something that you pick up and work with, innovation can follow. Take Hitachi's DK-H31S, a two-piece HD camera that's rugged enough for non-traditional shooting environments, such as shooting from the air or as part of a robotic system. The camera, which debuts at NAB, uses 2/3in. CCDs and can record either 1080i or 720p formats. The compact camera head can be placed away from the processing portion.
