As electronics allow camera form factors to shrink, manufacturers are coming up with innovative setups. V.I.O., previously known as Viosport, started out as a maker of helmet cameras for sports enthusiasts; today's more capable gear now sells to law enforcement and others, as well. The resolution is higher than previous systems, now delivering 720×480 resolution at 30fps. (Also available: 25fps, 24fps, and 15fps.) The POV.1 employs the efficient DivX codec to deliver MPEG-4 AVI, along with analog NTSC/PAL. The unit records in either loop or clip modes; loop mode allows the user to tag and save key segments, while clip mode creates continuous recordings.
