Ikonoskop A-cam dII camera
Room for Another High-end Camcorder?

The Digital Negative (DNG), promulgated by Adobe, is an open, publicly available archival format for RAW files generated by digital cameras. The idea is to address the lack of an open standard for the RAW files created by individual camera models, moving away from the wide variations in how different manufacturers interpret raw or uncompressed digital image files.

Now, quirky camera manufacturer Ikonoskop is on the verge of releasing the A-cam dII camera, an odd but actually usefully shaped camcorder that shoots 60 RAW frames of 1080p video per second.

Shown on the floor of IBC 2008, the camcorder includes an 80GB memory card for recording (no pricing available), as well as a method of realtime offloading of image data. Because there is no image processing onboard, costs are kept down. It's expected to price around $10,000. Aspects of the device, such as the menu available on the OLED viewfinder, are said to be pretty basic. The Super 16-sized sensor allows use of readily available, high-quality Super 16 lenses. There is also a 2-channel audio output via a Lemo connector. www.ikonoskop.com
