Manufacturers have wanted to move from inefficient quartz-based projection systems for some time, but alternative lamp technologies such as LEDs didn't offer enough light output. Now Taiwan-based Chi Lin Technology offers a solution: Pumping some 30 amps through Luminus Devices' newly designed PhlatLight LED brings the brightness up to 600 ANSI lumens, while a liquid-cooling setup holds down the lamp's heat. With a claimed contrast ratio of more than 100,000:1, the projector employs the latest-generation Texas Instruments 1080p DMD technology. Chi Lin rates the projector's NTSC color gamut at 128 percent.
