Panasonic introduced its 10-bit AVC-Intra codec last year. Since then, some of the the company's camcorders — including its 2/3in.P2-based AJ-HPX3000 and AJ-HPX2000 — now offer this flexible variant of the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec. Last month, the company introduced the AG-HPG20 P2 portable recorder/player incorporating AVC-Intra recording capabilities. Panasonic describes the result as bringing master-quality recording — formerly only available in higher-cost, full-sized decks — to the field. In addition to its main task of offloading from P2 cards, the compact deck can be used to record via HD/SD-SDI and IEEE 1394 inputs. The 2.5lb. unit features two P2 card slots, a 3.5in. LCD screen, and a wide range of recording and playback formats.
