It's a good thing that more choices in LED-type lighting gear are turning up, something both talent and you can appreciate. The talent will like LEDs' low heat output, while you'll like their smaller, more hardy form factor. Such lights often price lower — when factoring in fewer bulb replacements — for results similar to earlier-gen quartz “heaters,” something those rigs were equally capable of. Moving further into on-camera lighting gear, battery maker Switronix now offers TorchLED, a modular dimmable light with output of 30W to 75W. The TorchLED TL-50, a 30W 5600K (daylight) fixture, includes an internal, rechargeable lithium polymer battery pack to supply up to 2.5 hours of operating time.
