Products: Quantel Primatte
If you're working with greenscreens, you might have favorites among the very good keyers available. For some, the point-and-click ease of Imagica's Primatte — the quality is a given, even when faced with uneven lighting and faint but annoying shadows — makes it a regular tool. It has garnered its share of kudos too, including a recent nomination for an Academy Award for Scientific and Technical excellence.
After working with code house VDS, Quantel announced it now has Primatte running as a plug-in on its iQ, eQ, and Pablo systems. Version 4 runs faster, and it is said to be even easier to use than prior versions with new features such as auto setup, which analyzes the backing color and creates the key setup automatically.
Park Road Post Production in New Zealand, owned in part by Peter Jackson, is one of the first to adopt the new keyer for its two Pablo systems.
