Globalstor Data ExtremeStor-DI REDe
Does it make sense to work at 4K resolutions? Heck, even attempting to view 4K is tough since little except Sony's high-end SXRD can claim to play back such resolutions, something monitors still can't do.
But some companies think it's worth going to market with gear aimed that high. At NAB Show 2009, Globalstor demoed its ExtremeStor-DI REDe, which the company claims is the first to offer native, uncompressed 4K-resolution playback in a portable system.
Intended for companies that work with DI and camera systems from companies such as Red Digital Cinema or the now defunct Dalsa, the high-res manipulation is pulled off by an Nvidia Quadro Plex 2200 D2—essentially dual Quadro FX 5800 GPUs with an 8GB frame buffer. Assimilate Scratch, incorporated into the system, directs playback.
