Capabilities common in consumer camcorders are now moving into the pro end of the market. And why not, if it''s simple enough to implement and actually something you find useful?

Expect Panasonic to listen for such feedback when it hears from pro camera operators who use its new AG-HMC40 camcorder to also take 10.6-megapixel still photos. Introduced at NAB Show 2009, the petite camcorder (it weighs 2.2lbs.) employs a 2-megapixel 3-CMOS imager and a 12X optical zoom, and it records 1080i, 1080p, and 720p via AVCHD on standard high-speed SD cards. Features from higher-end Panasonic camcorders end up here too—including Dynamic Range Stretch to compensate for wide variations in lighting, and Cine-Like Gamma mode, which approximates film gamma.
