The Red Digital Cinema Red One camera continues to prove it's no flash in the pan by the number of companies announcing new products specifically designed for the renegade camera manufacturer.
Case in point: Sachtler. The German company, part of Vitec's large group, has made top tripods and other stabilizers for more than 50 years. Now the company introduces the artemis EFP HD SE camera-stabilizing system, which is designed to work with the Red One camera, although Sachtler insists that it works just as well with other "state-of-the-art" HD cameras.
What's useful for these new high-end cameras is having enough juice to power the growing range of accessories that are turning up. In this case, artemis offers a 15-amp high-capacity camera power supply with a new extra camera power-outadded to the standard issue three socketsthat uses the same quality Lemo 2B 6-pin socket and wiring setup as the Red One.
Another good idea: Hot-Swap camera power technology. Designed by portable power innovator Anton Bauer, the setup allows users to change the batteries of the rig without rebooting the camera. The special circuitry solves a production concern that if unaddressed, wastes valuable location production time.
