Although built-in mics come standard with DV camcorders, it's easier
to control audio recording quality with one or more separate
microphones. Azden makes that easy and inexpensive with its
FMX-2, a small (3.75"×1.6"×5") portable two-channel
field mixer. You can attach the all-metal, battery-operated (single 9V)
mixer directly to a camera with provided Velcro or wear it on a belt
using the included three-position clip. The FMX-2 includes XLR inputs
and outputs as well as a mini-plug output for MiniDV cameras. Mixer
output can be reconfigured: For example, one microphone can be mixed to
both outputs or a single output while two mics can be mixed to either
single output or mixed together to both outputs.
