Omneon Video Networks introduced the Omneon Spectrum HD, a scalable media server. The Omneon Spectrum HD provides integrated playback of high-definition video content, and when configured with other components in the Omneon Spectrum line, allows broadcasters to ingest, store, and play back both SD and HD content simultaneously from a single system, using shared storage. The Omneon Spectrum HD provides HD acquisition and playback by using two realtime interface adapters. The MediaPort 4010, combining HD MPEG-2 with MPEG Transport Stream (MTS) demux, allows media input. HD output is based on the MultiPort 4002 interface adapter, which features built-in decoding capability for MPEG-2 high-def video. The MultiPort 4002 offers output for two independent channels of MPEG-2 HD video within a single 1RU device. Multiple MultiPort 4002 devices can be combined to create multi-channel systems. All Omneon Spectrum components feature plug-and-play operability. For multilingual HD programming that requires multiple audio tracks, the MultiPort 4002 supports 16 channels of audio for each video channel.
