As editing toolsets from all vendors continue to improve, even small companies can now turn out remarkable software for a very low tab. Case in point: CyberLink's PowerDirector4, an all-in-one suite that includes capturing, editing, authoring, disc burning, and multiple I/O capabilities. Although it may not convince you to toss your Avid or Apple NLE systems, PowerDirector4 could be an ideal choice for those times when speed and simplicity are key. The product's Magic Music function, for example, employs Quicktracks technology from SmartSound. Simply select a song from SmartSound's royalty-free music library and bring it into the timeline, and the song automatically rearranges itself into a “complete soundtrack” that matches the onscreen visuals.
