Millimeter Pick Hit winner for NAB 2005. Price: $6,750
For years, fluorescent tube technology has lit up LCD screens, resulting in color values that, by almost any measure, fall far behind those of CRTs. Now, as bright, pure-color LEDs hit the market, manufacturers are using them to replace fluorescents to deliver color scales that more than match phosphor-based CRTs. While it's pricey, NEC's 21in. SpectraView LCD2180WG LED monitor is the first to reach the market. The stunning SpectraView employs a combination of red, green, and blue LEDs to deliver an ultra-wide color gamut, reaching more than 100 percent of the Adobe RGB and NTSC color scales. It's good for group viewing too: LED backlight technology reduces color/contrast shift problems that occur due to changes in viewpoints, making for a stable, ultra-wide viewing angle.
