Over the years, rotoscoping has become central to graphics production. New roto apps have appeared and disappeared, with any number of custom versions created by the studios.

Startup Silhouette FX adds another such app with its Silhouette+Roto. While this might at first appear like just another me-too product, reconsider that impression — the founders of the Los Angeles-based company include top effects industry names Paul Miller and Perry Kivolowitz from Profound Effects and Peter Moyer and Marco Paolini from Digital Film Tools.

Features of Silhouette+Roto include: advanced, fully animatable shape tools; integrated motion trackers that can apply motion to individual points or whole shapes; OpenGL-accelerated realtime shape preview and accelerated rendering; and automatically computed motion blur. www.silhouettefx.com
