Developing new technologies to improve tape recording sounds retro, but the maturity of tape-based designs delivers both good prices and top capabilities. Fuji Photo Film U.S.A, for example, is now shipping its latest Fujifilm Super DLTtape II tape and cartridge with benefits that include very low self-demagnetization, increased high-frequency output, and a higher recording density, according to the company.
The tape, which offers a native capacity of 300GB, works with Quantum's new SDLT 600A tape drive. The 600A features Quantum's DLTxchange, its implementation of the MXF file format, creating a breakthrough product: The system provides a method to transfer and/or back up HD as data files, instead of costlier VTR solutions. www.fujifilm.com/tapestorage
