It's astonishing how quickly disk-based storage continues to drop in price. This past October, for example, Maxtor not only introduced a 500GB drive, but also priced a compact array of two drives — that's 1TB — for less than $900.

Maxtor's OneTouch III Turbo Edition includes bundled software for automated backup and restore capabilities (Mac and PC) that also enables creation of RAID 0 or RAID 1 arrays.

Other features include automated file synch, DriveLock password protection, acoustic damping, a self-adjusting cooling system, and an inner disk drive casing and shock mounts for additional drive protection. I/O comes via USB, FireWire 400, and FireWire 800 ports. www.maxtor.com
