Although storage and networking costs continue to drop, it can still be tricky to set up a networked editing system. But that doesn't mean you need to spend a high tab for good performance, according to Boston-based EditShare, which has made a name as a low-cost turnkey provider of collaborative editing systems. With a recent doubling of throughput for its basic EditShare server, the company now claims the unit can support eight streams of uncompressed SD media, 24 streams of DV, and 35 streams of 15:1. Storage capacities run up to 16TB.

Features include full support of FinalCut Pro; compatibility for Mac-based Avid systems, including cross-platform sharing with PC-based Avid NLEs; and 10Gbps Ethernet networking. www.editshare.com
